What is money?
Nowadays money is the key to all happiness. It is money that can buy happiness for your family, it is money that can buy a smile in the face of your children. It is money that can make you smarter, because with money you can travel all over the world and visit places, hire the best instructors, learn from the best and even pay tuition fees.
But if money is so important why are we supposed to feel guilty for wanting money?
There are people who are suffering
No one can watch a commercial of hungry children and not feel bad for them. If you do not care about the poor and starving in the world than you seriously need to get yourself checked out for narcissistic personality disorder. Empathy is a trait of human nature and a strength not a weakness. If you want to help other humans, remember you are in the right track. But imagine if you have the right amount of money than you can actually send some money to the people you want to help. You can feel very satisfied when you help people. Money can give you the ability to help. So given that you make money the right way, helping others can actually make you feel like a better person. Hence, focusing on making money is not such a bad thing. Is it? And as a coder you can make a huge difference. With more money, you can make websites that raises awareness and encourage people to donate. Apps that feed people. Spread love and kindness.
Lectures on a just society
Where in this world does a completely just society even exist. The Biblical version of a heaven is exactly there in heaven and not on earth. So just because someone is making less money than you does not mean that you have no right to want a better life for yourself. A society where no one is starving while you enjoy your tacos will never be possible. Maybe someday in the future such a society will exist and the gap between the rich and the poor will be reduced. Till than, there is nothing you can do about it except post on social media or tweet about it. But you can do something if you have money, even make the society a better place and that’s why you should focus on money. As a coder your brain is wired to solve problems and with the right resources that money can buy you can solve problems.
Money does not buy happiness
Absolutely wrong!!! It can buy all the happiness in the world. It can even heal your state of mind. Rich people are happier than the poor. They can go through all kinds of life related problems and still be ok. Imagine having a house that is decorated according to your taste and a chef making your favorite meals. And having a study room in that house with a view of the Pacific. Imagine the work you can get done! The skills you can accomplish!!! The computer parts and cables you can buy. Yes, I know what makes us happy. Yes, money can buy perfection, the perfect setting, the perfect state of mind and can make you better at your job. With that state of mind you will be able to teach others coding for free. Now imagine being in a state of mind where you are not making enough, now when will you teach others to do anything in life.
Coders deserve to make all the money.
Of course there are professions which are way more noble than coding. Doctors for example are saving lives. Firefighters are heroes. Let’s not forget all the minimum wage workers who were essentials during the pandemic. All noble professions deserve a good wage. Now as a coder, you have also helped during the pandemic. Yes, you have saved lives. Everything was online remember!! The entire economy survived because people could work online. The work from home was possible because software engineers have designed some software to do that. Doctors have saved lives online. IT workers were not only essentials but lives depended on them. That’s why do not shy away from asking more price. You are as important as anyone else.
Now that all the guilt for chasing money is gone
Let’s cut to the chase. People who are more interested in money tend to work harder. My friend and I took this online course together. I love money and my friend is not all about money. I did not only finish that particular course before he did, I finished 9 other courses while he did one. Yes, that is the power of being driven by money. It somehow makes you work way harder than people who do not care about it.
Do not resort to extreme case scenarios
Will you do anything for money? Kill someone? Run a brothel? No, if you are good person you will be willing to work harder for money not become a prostitute or a gangster. Like everything in the world, good people will always want to do things the right way while bad people will want to do everything the wrong way. Wanting money does not mean that you want money however you can. Wanting money does not mean that it will transform you into a heartless person. Money being evil is a myth. If you want to marry a woman, do you want to kidnap a woman to marry her or do you want to find someone and go on romantic dates and marry for love? Wanting is not bad, it is the plan that you have of getting the things you want that can be good or bad. When you are a good and honest person you will want to make money the right way and there is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to make money. You must allow yourself to want it.
Focusing on money can save you from scammersss
It actually does!! When I first started out I joined this consultancy firm where the salary would start when they found a client. They were not even paying me a minimum wage. My job was to get trained for free and than wait for a client. The boss was obviously nice, too nice because he wasn’t paying anything. Anyways he managed to sweet talk people into waiting for those potential clients. I, however, got extremely impatient. I am not waiting around for money. I want it NOW!!! He kept saying he had clients, but I was losing my motivation to code. I was actually getting very depressed and losing my skills. I did not feel like doing anything coding related. Anyways, I could not handle the moneyless job. One year later, I got in touch with some colleagues from that scam company. They are still waiting for that job/client while I was working for a fortune 500. This my friends, is the power of being driven by money. You do not get scammed. There are many scam consultancy firms in the IT industry and you will land the better job and the better deal only when you are money oriented.
Money is the key to a satisfying career
In order to feel useful as a software engineer you have to make money. The career requires you to solve problems that lives depend on. A wrong data entry can cause serious issues. One semicolon in the wrong place that’s it you spend your entire day in front of a screen. It can give eye sight problems, back problems carpal tunnel. Please, take your reward and focus on money. The world has many rich people in it that do not even deserve the wealth they have. We deserve it and we are willing to do something that helps people. I have never met one software engineer who does not have plans to help society in some way. Solving problems becomes a second nature for us and with money we can surely make the world a better place. Invent apps, technologies and materials that can change the world. Employers are willing to pay good engineers more money. Work for it and take it !!! It will keep you motivated to keep getting better at your work. A low paying job will kill you on the inside but a high paying job will make you feel alive.
Altogether the sky will always be blue and the future of coders will be bright everywhere.
