Can AI be hacked?
Yes, AI can be extremely vulnerable to attacks by malicious actors
Why would anyone attack an AI
Let’s consider the mindset of hackers. What do hackers want? Are they after money, notoriety, recognition? Do they enjoy being the villain?
Hackers have existed since the dawn of technology and even before that. But if you understand what it is that motivates a hacker to hack. You would understand why AI will be their favorite thing to hack now. Of course, hackers can make a lot of money targeting small and medium sized businesses without AI. But is money always their goal ?
Money is not always the end goal of hackers. Hacking is actually a crime of passion. As the famous hacker Kevin Mitnick once said, “I was addicted to hacking more for the intellectual challenge, the curiosity, the seduction of adventure; not for stealing or causing damage.” To a hacker, hacking can feel like a game. They can feel very powerful once all the levels are passed and all the data and the algorithms are exposed in front of them. After hacking into a system, a hacker can largely influence a company, medical institution or the lives of many people by doing some damage or stealing information or by manipulating the data. A hacker can also protect and have good intentions. But either way many hackers like to influence or effect the lives of others by hacking. Here’s why AI would be the most enticing thing for hackers.
